# Gilles MANOUKIAN

## A Visionary from Factory to Innovation

Born into a family of miners in a small industrial town in eastern France (57), Gilles MANOUKIAN—known professionally by his pseudonym—has always been surrounded by a spirit of resilience and hard work. His ancestors dug deep into the earth, not only to extract precious mineral resources but also to build a better future for their descendants.

Inspired by their determination and tenacity, Gilles decided at a young age to dig in his own way—not into the ground, but into ideas and innovations that shape our world.

## Childhood and Education

Growing up in a community where mines and factories were the heartbeat of life, Gilles learned the value of effort from an early age—even though his father, Jean Schiavina, left when he was just three years old!

His mother, always attentive to him but working in Paris to make ends meet, entrusted his care to his grandmother Jeanne and grandfather Joseph. After his grandfather's premature death from silicosis—the miner's lung disease—his grandmother took over completely.

He spent his days listening to his grandfather's stories of grueling days underground and nights dreaming of what he could achieve beyond the mines. His grandmother then shared tales of their Italian great-grandparents' arrival in France to work and build a life, while instilling in him the foundational values of respect, politeness, and diligence.

After leaving middle school in 9th grade (5ème CPPN), he pursued a vocational training program to please his grandmother: "Get your CAP first, then do whatever you want—but you'll always have the factory to fall back on," she told him.

With his Certificate of Professional Aptitude (CAP) in hand, Gilles refused to stop there. Though his academic path was shorter than that of many peers, he compensated with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and unwavering determination. He quickly realized that success lies in surrounding oneself with the right people and collaborating with the best in every field.

## Career and Accomplishments

After his CAP, Gilles worked as a forklift operator, then as heavy equipment driver, before becoming a multi-bin truck driver and long-haul trucker for Faure & Machet until 1986.

He then passed the police entrance exam and, thanks to his exceptional martial arts skills, joined the SPHP (Service de Protection des Hautes Personnalités) of the Ministry of the Interior as a Category 1 driver, under the command of René Gaudelet. One of his most prestigious missions came in 1987: retrieving the Popemobiles from the Vatican, then driving and securing them at sites in Strasbourg, Mont Saint-Odile, and Mulhouse, before returning them to the Vatican.

However, his promising career in VIP protection came to an abrupt end on August 21, 1994, when he was head-on collided with by a car while riding his personal motorcycle, missing a turn.

Seventeen fractures and 18 months of rehabilitation later, deemed unfit to return to duty and unwilling to settle for a desk job, Gilles reinvented his life. He adopted a pseudonym (the name of one of his great-great-grandfathers) to separate his personal and professional lives—a common practice in the artistic world he was about to enter, thanks to his friend Franck Alcaras, manager of Herbert Léonard and Los Machucumbos, who took him under his wing.

Months later, Herbert Léonard became his mentor in the industry. Accompanied by René Sorre and Franck Alcaras, he toured the Francophonie and Canada for Herbert Léonard's galas and TV appearances.

Then, Clémence and José from La Compagnie Créole offered him the role of executive manager, which he accepted from 1999 to 2016. He was joined for several years by Christian Montagnac, before the latter married Fabienne Thiebault.

He also worked sporadically with numerous artists, including his close friend Nilda Fernandez, Sting, Barry White, Lara Fabian in her early Belgian days, David Alexandre Winter, Émile & Images, Boney M—and the list goes on.

Drawing on his experiences, vision, and an extraordinary global network built from connections worldwide, Gilles founded EOS Group Int. in 2000 with a clear mission: to redefine the future through innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.
